Wesley Woods has been a huge part of the North Georgia Annual Conference’s ministry with older adults for 66 years (though it gets no funds from apportionments). Each year churches have covenanted to take an offering on Mother’s Day for those who need financial assistance to reside in one of the ten Wesley Woods communities. Because of the pandemic, this year’s offering was delayed until August 23rd.
Five of the Wesley Woods communities are HUD units and over 40% of the residents live below the poverty line. In all, 75% of the 1800 residents of Wesley Woods communities need some financial assistance annually. In our own district, we are proud to have and support Branan Lodge located in Blairsville, GA.
This offering not only addresses the needs of poverty, homelessness, and quality healthcare but also provides chaplains for spiritual support and wellness nurses to improve quality of life – neither of which are funded by HUD.
For these reasons and a pandemic which has added additional stress on funds, reception of the August 23rd offering in 100% of the district churches is critical. Please add your gift to your regular contribution either online or by check and designate Wesley Woods.
